The Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility (GRMF) was established to fund, facilitate, and accelerate geothermal development in Eastern Africa. The overall objective of the GRMF is to encourage public and private sector investment into geothermal power generation. The GRMF therefore acts as a catalyst in establishing geothermal energy as a strategic option for power generation capacity expansion in eleven partner countries in the Eastern African Rift region

Facility for Energy Inclusion (FEI)

The design, structuring, and implementation of an energy inclusion facility. The Facility will be focused on providing senior and mezzanine debt financing to small scale projects (on-grid, mini-grid and off-grid) with total costs less than USD 30 million and to distributed energy companies and other entities focused on off-grid energy solutions. The Facility will seek, through a stream-lined platform, to alleviate the barrier of high transaction costs faced by small scale projects and increase the flow of capital to the energy sector.

European Union’s Technical Assistance Facility (TAF) for the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL)

The EU has launched a Technical Assistance Facility (TAF), to assist partner countries in fine tuning their energy policies and regulatory frameworks to allow for increased investments in the energy sector. It supports countries which are committed to reaching the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) objectives, in particular those who selected energy not only as one of the priority areas of their national policy agenda, but also chose energy as a focal sector in their bilateral cooperation with the EU for the period; 2014-2020.

EREF ECOWAS Renewable Energy Facility

The ECOWAS Renewable Energy Facility (EREF) is a grant facility which is managed by the Secretariat of the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) based in Praia, Cape Verde.  It provides grant co-funding for small to medium sized renewable energy and energy efficiency (RE&EE) projects and businesses in rural and peri-urban areas. The Facility undertakes regular demand driven call for proposals.

Communicating Energy in Southern Africa

The project will contribute to SADC’s objective of creating access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy services in the SADC Region. Although having a rich endowment of energy resources such as natural gas, hydropower, wind and solar the SADC Region faces serious energy challenges. The prevailing instability is compounded by many factors, e.g.
