Stakeholder consultation and capacity building to enhance National Determinant Contributions (NDC) Support Centre for Malawi

The African Energy  Commission (AFREC) together ith its partner Vito, through the Ministry of Energy of Malawi held a two-day technical stakeholder  engagement meeting with government officials, statistics  and energy utility agencies of Malawi, as part of the implementation of the NDC support centre project.  

AFREC Ramps up the Training of the Trainers

09 May 2022, Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire: AFREC has ramped up its capacity building initiatives by continuing to increase the African pool of trainers in energy statistic, through the training of the Trainers (ToT) programme.

With support from the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), a ToT programme is currently underway to build skills of trainers who benefited from a beginner training course which was undertaken in Cote d’Ivoire, in December in 2021.

AFREC supports Mozambique to develop a NEIS

The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) in Mozambique has embarked upon developing a National Energy Information System (NEIS).

The Project which is supported by the European Union (EU) aim to support Mozambique to develop an energy resource centre, to ensure there is an increase in equitable access to sustainable and affordable clean energy by developing a comprehensive energy data system.

Inauguration of the Africa-OPEC Energy Dialogues

Held under the theme ‘Africa and the Global energy transition: Challenges and Opportunities’, the African Energy Commission (AFREC) in collaboration with the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Africa Petroleum Producers Organisations (APPO), Africa Refiners & Distributors Association (ARDA), conducted its first OPEC-Africa Dialogue as part of the institutions objective to create value addition through synergies, to address energy poverty, climate change and other energy challenges on the African continent

Regional Training Workshop for Southern African Countries on Energy Statistics and Efficiency

Johannesburg, South Africa, 1-3 October 2019: The African Energy Commission (AFREC), in collaboration with the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) - GIZ and the International Energy Agency (IEA), organized the 3rd regional training workshop for the Southern African countries on "Energy Statistics, Residential Sector, Energy Efficiency Data Collection and Initial Step towards the Creation of Energy Efficiency Database for Industrial Sector ".

Launching of a Policy Brief

18 October, 2021, Algiers:- The African Energy Commission (AFREC) hosted a high-Level meeting to launch a Policy Brief paper on “Natural Gas in the African Energy Landscape” and presented its findings, the importance of Natural Gas within the African energy mix and recommendations for further consideration by Member States, Regional Economic Communities and other African Institutions.
